Interesting strategy

I came across an interesting testing strategy recently……

The entire approach seemed to revolve around ‘exploratory testing’, with little or no up-front test analysis.

The test case documents were more like a list of high level scenario extracted from the BRS. Rather than going into detailed steps and explaining how to meet the preconditions for each scenario it is left up to each tester to get there any way they can.

This means that tester may or may not do it the ‘correct’ way. By not providing detailed steps, the testers much explore the application and navigate their way through it in order to reach the desired condition.

Is this a valid approach?
