These projects have created a dangerous president and contractors in the Testing arena are now demanding unrealistic rates. I personally have come across people who 12 - 24 months ago would have been happy working for $45 per hour who are now asking $75 per hour. That's an increase of over 50% in 2 years!!! no wonder employers have had enough!

Contractors demanding these unrealistic rates are killing the market. Come on guys - be serious and ask yourself - do you really think you are worth the money you are demanding?

It's simple economic - if you out-price yourself you will end out out of work! It's as simple as that! A word of advice - don't try to hold your agency or employer to ransom - be reasonable.

2 - Federal Election
There is another theory that may explain the shift. With the federal election just around the corner there is some uncertainty around 'Work Place Relations' and what may happen post a Federal Election.

It is conceivable that employers are looking to bring permanent employees in now while they know where they stand, before any changes are enforced on them by the Federal Government.

Either way there has been a definite change in the way that Brisbane employers engage Testers so keep that in mind next time you complain about your rates!Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-83112729881146512662007-08-09T14:51:00.001+10:002007-08-09T15:17:18.591+10:00ISEB / ISTQB CertificationThere is a view that all Tester should get certified.

Will this really help promote Testing and QA as a valued and necessary part of the SDLC or is it just a marketing ploy by the training providers?

Either way, I tend to agree that certification is a good thing, but how valued and recognised in the ISEB/ISTQB Testing Certification in the workplace?

For independent contracts is it really worth the investment?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-8663428886809646702007-08-09T14:51:00.000+10:002007-08-09T15:02:00.248+10:00Which browserIE is still by far the most popular browser currently in use.

However with different browsers growing in popularity is it enough to just test websites in IE6 or IE7?

How important is browser compatibility testing and how extensively should compatibility be verified?

Are there any specific problems or quirks that web testers should watch out for?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-71402217716383723482007-05-30T11:48:00.002+10:002007-05-30T12:00:30.174+10:00What makes a good testerIf BAs and Developers do not necessarily make good testers, what is it about real career testers that sets them apart from the rest?

Training?
Attitude?
Aptitude?

What exactly makes a good tester?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-83304710002016410622007-05-30T11:48:00.001+10:002007-05-30T11:56:00.405+10:00Developers -v- TestersWhy don't developers make good testers?

A developer creates what the Business Analysts and Designers ask for. At the end of the day (with input from the business and the users) they generally design the thing.

So......... why doesn't a BA make a good tester?

Are Business Analysts too close to the end product?

Are they too subjective?

Are they more likely to miss things that an objective Test Analyst?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-66387019656966025382007-05-01T09:05:00.000+10:002007-05-01T09:08:36.329+10:00Interesting strategyI came across an interesting testing strategy recently……

The entire approach seemed to revolve around ‘exploratory testing’, with little or no up-front test analysis.

The test case documents were more like a list of high level scenario extracted from the BRS. Rather than going into detailed steps and explaining how to meet the preconditions for each scenario it is left up to each tester to get there any way they can.

This means that tester may or may not do it the ‘correct’ way. By not providing detailed steps, the testers much explore the application and navigate their way through it in order to reach the desired condition.

Is this a valid approach?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-48049736804299731212007-04-30T19:36:00.000+10:002007-04-30T19:39:29.380+10:00Interesting outlookI heard an very interesting view recently............

"A defect is not a valid defect if it was found when the tester deviated from a documented test case or scenario"

Thoughts anyone.......?Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580906231921408445.post-17022569526231648922007-04-04T11:50:00.000+10:002007-04-04T12:43:16.587+10:00Who am I?Andrzej Zyms - Principal of Targeted Resourcing Solutions.

I have spent almost 12 years working in the IT Industry, in Software Testing and QA. As time goes on I will be posting and sharing information & ideas concerning an ever growing area of IT - Software Testing.

Software Testing has historically been seen as an unnecessary overhead - times have changed and Testers need to stand up and demand to be counted and valued!

By sharing information, ideas, techniques and general observations on how the IT Industry is moving I hope to create a better understanding of what Software Testing is all about.

Posts here are designed to be informative and thought provoking. Everyone has different opinions on Software Testing and how it should and should not be done - but who is right? We'll see as time goes on.............Andrzej Zymshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11051307192126866142noreply@blogger.com0
